Vivencias ante el diagnóstico de diabetes mellitus 1 a niños/adolescentes y sus familias

Abstract

RESUMEN: INTRODUCCIÓN: Existen una gran cantidad de casos de diabetes mellitus tipo 1 en niños y adolescentes en todo el mundo. Estos se encuentran en un punto de su vida en el que experimentan una gran cantidad de cambios debido al momento biológico natural en el que se encuentran, es por eso que el debut de una enfermedad crònica como es la diabetes puede suponer una dificultad añadida a sus vidas incluyendo una repercusión en sus decisiones y responsabilidades. Debido a esto es importante conocer a cada niño, adolescentes y su familia más cercana para poder llevar un buen control clínico de esta enfermedad a lo largo de su vida, pero también ser conscientes de cuál es el impacto a nivel psicológico del diagnóstico de esta enfermedad desde el inicio. OBJETIVO: El propósito de este estudio es investigar el impacto psicológico experimentado por los individuos tras el diagnóstico de la enfermedad de Diabetes Mellitus tipo 1 (DM1). El objetivo primordial es identificar los indicadores psicológicos tempranos asociados con este diagnóstico, con el fin de intervenir de manera oportuna y reducir posibles repercusiones negativas en la salud mental de los afectados. MÉTODO: Se llevó a cabo un estudio cualitativo que abarcó a niños, adolescentes y sus familiares que se encontraban ingresados en el Hospital Sant Joan de Déu de Barcelona tras el diagnóstico reciente de diabetes mellitus tipo 1, con un período de debut de menos de un año. Para recopilar información sobre sus experiencias con la enfermedad, se optó por realizar entrevistas semiestructuradas, PERMITIENDO ASÍ UNA EXPLORACIÓN MÁS PROFUNDA DE SUS VIVENCIAS Y PERCEPCIONES. METHOD: A qualitative study was carried out that included children, adolescents and their relatives who were admitted to the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital in Barcelona after the recent diagnosis of type 1 diabetes mellitus, with an onset period of less than one year. To collect information about their experiences with the disease, it was decided to conduct semi-structured interviews, thus allowing a deeper exploration of their experiences and perceptions. RESULTS: The analysis and interpretation of data obtained is carried out through the Colaizzi method.
