Eficacia de la terapia Reiki en el confort de los recién nacidos prematuros: Ensayo clínico aleatorizado

Abstract

RESUMEN: INTRODUCCIÓN: Los recién nacidos prematuros pueden sufrir dolor y estrés antes, durante y después de las intervenciones o manipulaciones que se le realizan tras el nacimiento. Esta situación hace que sea más necesaria la aplicación de tratamientos no farmacológicos como la terapia Reiki. Esta terapia, se ha identificado como una opción para mejorar el confort, y por ello, se busca confirmar su eficacia mediante un programa de sesiones aplicadas por una enfermera especialista. MÉTODOS: Se plantea un ensayo clínico aleatorizado simple ciego, que prevé incluir ciento veinte (n=120) recién nacidos prematuros sanos de 32 SG ingresados en la unidad neonatal de un hospital de tercer nivel y que cumplan los criterios de selección. Los mismos serán reclutados y aleatorizados en GI (prematuros que reciben sesiones de Reiki) y GC (prematuros que reciben tratamiento no farmacológico estándar). Las sesiones de Reiki serán de 15 minutos cada día ininterrumpidos, en el turno de mañana, hasta el alta del paciente. RESULTADOS ESPERADOS: Tras la finalización del estudio se prevé que los pacientes que reciben las sesiones de Reiki mejoren su nivel de confort en comparación con los que reciben el tratamiento estándar. CONCLUSIÓN: Se espera que este estudio aporte evidencia científica en relación a los beneficios que se puede obtener en cuanto a confort del neonato cuando recibe sesiones de Reiki. Tras haber realizado varias sesiones de Reiki, haberlos recopilado y analizado, los posibles resultados del estudio mostrarían que la terapia Reiki tiene un impacto positivo en el recién nacido prematuro, aumentando así, su confort y disminuyendo su dolor tras haber realizado un procedimiento en él. ABSTRACT: INTRODUCTION: Premature newborns suffer pain and stress before, during, and after birth such as during procedures to check the health of the child. This study aims to look at the application of a non-pharmacological treatment called; Reiki. Reiki therapy has been identified as an option to improve the comfort of premature newborns. Its effectiveness is understudy, and the efficacy of this therapy is to be tested through planned sessions applied by a specialist nurse. METHODS: A simple randomized clinical trial is proposed, which plans to include one hundred and twenty (n=120) healthy premature newborns of 32 weeks of gestation admitted to the neonatal unit of the Parc Taulí hospital and who meet the selection criteria. They will be recruited and randomized into GI (premature babies receiving Reiki sessions) and GC (premature babies receiving standard non-pharmacological treatment). Reiki sessions will be 15 minutes each day, during the morning shift, until the patient is discharged. Once the study is completed the data will be collected and analyzed. EXPECTED RESULTS: After the completion of the study, it is expected that patients who receive Reiki therapy will improve comfort compared to those who receive standard treatment. CONCLUSION: After having performed several Reiki therapy sessions, and analyzing them, it is possible that the results of the study would show that Reiki therapy has a positive impact on premature newborns, thus increasing their comfort and decreasing their pain. If the sample size (n=120) is not reached, the study will be extended for another year. It is expected that this study will provide scientific evidence regarding the benefits, or lack thereof, of Reiki therapy. KEYWORDS: Reiki; non-pharmacological treatment; premature; comfort and pain.
