Impacto de la lista de verificación quirúrgica en la seguridad del paciente y las percepciones del personal sanitario en cirugía abdominal: Estudio de métodos mixtos.

Abstract

RESUMEN: En este estudio se aborda la implementación y efectividad del checklist como herramienta para mejorar la seguridad y calidad de la atención quirúrgica. A pesar de su reconocimiento como elemento fundamental, existe una brecha de conocimiento en cuanto a la percepción y cumplimiento del checklist por parte del personal sanitario. El objetivo principal es evaluar la percepción y cumplimiento del checklist por parte del personal sanitario, así como su impacto en la reducción de complicaciones postoperatorias en cirugías abdominales. Se utilizará un enfoque mixto, combinando métodos cualitativos y cuantitativos, para abordar la complejidad del tema y obtener una comprensión integral de su implementación. La población estará compuesta por pacientes mayores de edad sometidos a cirugía abdominal y el personal de enfermería que intervengan en estos procedimientos. El estudio se llevará a cabo durante el período de un año, en el Hospital Universitari General de Catalunya. Se considerará como variable independiente la implementación del checklist y la variable dependiente incidencia de complicaciones postoperatorias. Se realizará un análisis descriptivo de la población de estudio, pacientes y profesionales, además de inferencial en la fase cuantitativa, y en la fase cualitativa se analizan siguiendo el análisis temático mediante el programa atlas-ti. Resultados esperados: Se espera que este estudio proporcione evidencias sobre la efectividad del checklist en la reducción de complicaciones postoperatorias, el impacto del checklist en la percepción y cumplimiento del personal sanitario y la congruencia entre las percepciones del personal y la implementación real del checklist. En conclusión, los hallazgos pueden impulsar la mejora de la implementación del checklist en la práctica clínica, optimizando la seguridad del paciente en intervenciones abdominales.

ABSTRACT: This study addresses the implementation and effectiveness of the checklist in improving the safety and quality of surgical care. However, there is a knowledge gap regarding the perception of and compliance with the checklist by healthcare personnel. The main objective is to evaluate healthcare personnel's perception and compliance with the checklist, as well as its impact on reducing postoperative complications in abdominal surgeries. A mixed-method approach, combining qualitative and quantitative methods, will be used to address the complexity of the topic and to gain a comprehensive understanding of its implementation. The target population will consist of adult patients undergoing abdominal surgery and nursing staff involved in these procedures. The study will be conducted at the Hospital Universitari General de Catalunya. this centre was selected for its clinical cases, patients, access to professionals, and relevant resources for the study, and a solid reputation in healthcare ensures data quality, strengthening the validity of our findings. The following variables will be considered: independent variable (implementation of the checklist) and dependent variable (incidence of postoperative complications). It’s hoped that this study will provide evidence on the effectiveness of the checklist in reducing postoperative complications and thus improve patient safety. In conclusion, this study aims to evaluate the implementation and effectiveness of the checklist in a real hospital setting. The results obtained are expected to provide valuable information about healthcare personnel's perception and compliance with the checklist, as well as its impact on postoperative complications. The findings will contribute to strengthening the implementation of the checklist in clinical practice and improving surgical safety protocols in the hospital.
