Prevención del suicidio en Brians 1

Abstract

RESUMEN: El presente estudio analiza el papel del sistema penitenciario español en los procesos de reeducación y reinserción social de las personas privadas de libertad, destacando el respeto a los derechos humanos como pilar fundamental de su funcionamiento. Lejos de limitarse únicamente como espacios de castigo, los centros penitenciarios ofrecen programas educativos, culturales y laborales, que preparan a los internos para su posterior vida en libertad e inclusión en la sociedad. Bajo una metodología de estilo cuantitativo y un diseño descriptivo correlacional, se examina la relación entre los intentos autolíticos y el consumo de sustancias tóxicas entre los internos del Centro Penitenciario Brians 1, mediante una muestra aleatoria diaria recogida durante un año. El objetivo del estudio es poder identificar factores asociados a estos comportamientos con el fin de diseñar e implementar medidas preventivas más eficaces. Entre las principales limitaciones se encuentran la posible falta de cooperación de los internos a participar, por el sesgo derivado del estigma social vinculado al suicidio que puede afectar a la veracidad de las respuestas, y otra limitación han sido dificultades derivadas por la escasez de investigaciones previas. Como líneas futuras, se propone ampliar este tipo de estudios a otros centros penitenciarios de Cataluña, promoviendo la colaboración activa de los servicios de salud y del sistema penitenciario, con el fin de avanzar en la prevención del suicidio, mejorar la atención en la salud mental y reducir el estigma asociado a la salud mental en contextos penitenciarios. ABSTRACT: This study examines the role of the Spanish penitentiary system in the processes of re-education and social reintegration of individuals deprived of liberty, emphasizing respect for human rights as a fundamental pillar of its operation. Far from being merely punitive spaces, penitentiary centers offer educational, cultural, and labor programs aimed at preparing inmates for their future life in freedom and their inclusion in society. Using a quantitative methodology and a descriptive-correlational design, the study explores the relationship between self- harming behaviors and the consumption of toxic substances among inmates at the Brians 1 Penitentiary Center, based on a daily random sample collected over one year. The aim is to identify factors associated with these behaviors in order to design and implement more effective preventive measures. Key limitations include the potential lack of inmate cooperation, the bias introduced by social stigma surrounding suicide potentially affecting the truthfulness of responses and difficulties stemming from the scarcity of prior research on this topic. As a future line of inquiry, the study proposes extending this type of research to other penitentiary centers in Catalonia, promoting active collaboration between health services and the penitentiary system. The ultimate goal is to advance in suicide prevention, improve mental health care, and reduce the stigma associated with mental health issues within prison environments.
