| dc.description.abstract | Introduction: This randomized clinical trial protocol will analyze the effectiveness of
combining plyometric exercises with heavy slow resistance training (HSR) in the treatment of
degenerative patellar tendinopathy in basketball players. The choice of this protocol was
based on the high prevalence of this pathology in sports involving explosive movements, as
well as on the evidence supporting exercise as the primary treatment, considering a direct
transfer to real sports practice.
Objectives: The main objective of this study will be to analyze the functional impact on
patellar tendinopathy through heavy slow resistance training in addition to plyometric
training in male basketball players, evaluating its effectiveness at both functional and
symptomatological levels.
Material and methods: The study will be designed as a pilot randomized clinical trial
protocol with 66 active males aged 18 to 30, divided into an HSR control group and an
experimental group combining HSR with plyometrics. The intervention will be carried out
over two months, with three weekly sessions. Variables such as pain through the VAS scale,
functionality with the VISA-P scale, and physical performance through the CMJ jump test
will be evaluated.
The protocol was based on the continuum model of tendinopathy and the phenomenon of
mechanotransduction, highlighting the importance of progressive tendon adaptation to load.
While HSR was aimed at structural tissue improvement, plyometrics were proposed as a
bridge to prepare the tendon for the specific demands of the sport.
A rigorous procedure for data collection, variable control, and inclusion and exclusion criteria
was established, ensuring the internal validity of the study. Ethical and methodological
aspects such as single-blinding and randomization were also considered.
Discussion: The combination of HSR with plyometric exercises presents a physiological
basis with strong scientific support and a methodological design suitable for future protocols
of this nature. However, the short duration of the intervention, the limited control of external
loads, and the exclusively male sample are factors that hinder the extrapolation of results to
the general population.
Conclusion: It is proposed that the combination of HSR and plyometrics could represent a
more comprehensive strategy for rehabilitation, favoring both structural recovery and
functionality, although the need for future research to confirm these findings is highlighted. | es_ES |
