| es_ES |
| dc.description.abstract | INTRODUCTION
Urgency urinary incontinence is a highly limiting sequela in women following a stroke. However, conventional rehabilitation usually focuses on global mobility, omitting pelvic floor muscle training.
OBJECTIVE
To evaluate the efficacy of a specific pelvic floor muscle training program compared to usual rehabilitation care for improving urgency urinary incontinence in women in the chronic post-stroke phase.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
A randomized clinical trial involving 60 women aged 50 to 70 years with more than 6 months of post-stroke evolution. They will be divided into an intervention group, receiving 12 weeks of supervised and home-based pelvic floor training, and a control group with standard rehabilitation. Urgency urinary incontinence severity (ICIQ-SF, voiding diary), muscle function (PERFECT scheme), quality of life (I-QOL), and functional autonomy (Barthel Index) will be measured, including a 3-month follow-up.
WORKING PLAN
The project will have an estimated duration of 18 months divided into 8 chronological phases, ranging from theoretical review and ethical approval to data analysis and publication.
DISCUSSION/CONCLUSION
It is expected to confirm that this intervention reduces urine leakage and improves the patients’ functional independence. These findings would justify the routine inclusion of pelvic floor training in neurological rehabilitation. | es_ES |
