| es_ES |
| dc.description.abstract | Introduction: Lipedema is a chronic and progressive adipose tissue pathology that almost exclusively affects women, characterized by chronic pain and severe functional limitation. The gold standard conservative treatment is complex decongestive therapy (CDT), but current evidence suggests that supervised strength training is essential to activate the muscle pump and stabilize joints, with a scientific gap regarding the effectiveness of their combination compared to isolated application.
Objective: To compare the effectiveness of a strength training program combined with CDT versus conservative CDT treatment or an isolated strength training program on pain and functional capacity in women aged 18 to 75 diagnosed with lipedema.
Material and methods: A single-blind randomized clinical trial (RCT) will be conducted on a sample of 54 women, randomly distributed into three groups: IG1 (CDT + strength training), IG2 (strength training), and IG3 (CDT). The intervention will last for 8 weeks. Pain (VAS), limb circumference, maximum isometric strength, functional endurance, functional capacity (6MWT), and daily functionality (LEFS) will be evaluated.
Work plan: The research will be carried out between October 2025 and January 2027 and will be divided into five main phases: methodological planning and design, ethical and legal procedures, logistical coordination, execution (recruitment and intervention), and preparation of the final report.
Discussion and conclusion: The physical therapy approach to lipedema needs to evolve towards a more active focus. The combination of CDT and strength training could generate a therapeutic synergy superior to isolated interventions, improving not only volumetric reduction and pain but also the functionality, strength, and autonomy of the patients. | es_ES |
