Abstract

Tradicionalmente, el papel del padre dentro de la familia se ha mantenido alejado y en un plano secundario. Desde hace generaciones, los hombres han sido los sustentadores de la familia y la mujer quien ha llevado a cabo la crianza y educación de los niños y el orden del hogar. Así como siempre se había considerado la gestación y el momento del parto un suceso exclusivo para mujeres, dejando al hombre completamente apartado. Sin embargo, esto actualmente está cambiando. Cada día hay más padres interesados y preocupados por el bienestar de su pareja y del bebé. Este hecho trae consigo muchos efectos psicológicos y emocionales, físicos y un cambio social desde el punto de vista de la paternidad.

Traditionally, the role of the father in the family has been held out and on a secondary level. For generations, men have been the breadwinners and women took care of the upbringing and education of the children as well as being in charge of the house. Both, pregnancy and delivery had always been considered an exclusive experience for women, the father being left out of it. However, this is currently changing. More and more fathers are interested and concerned about the welfare of their parents and babies. This brings many psychological and emotional physical effects and social change from the perspective of fatherhood.
