Relación entre los traumas en la infancia y el desarrollo del trastorno límite de la personalidad

Abstract

Diversos autores han investigado la relación existente entre experiencias traumáticas durante la infancia y el desarrollo posterior de psicopatologías como el Trastorno Límite de la Personalidad (TLP). El objetivo del estudio es verificar la relación existente entre los traumas sufridos en la infancia y el desarrollo de Trastorno Límite de la Personalidad (TLP) en la edad adulta. Se realizó una búsqueda bibliográfica exhaustiva en Medline, con el objetivo de ofrecer una revisión actualizada, acotada a los últimos 5 años, de los estudios publicados en inglés y español sobre la relación existente entre los traumas en la infancia y posterior desarrollo del TLP, teniendo en cuenta el título, el impacto de los autores, los objetivos descritos en el resumen y los resultados expuestos. Finalmente se seleccionaron 20 publicaciones científicas. Los resultados obtenidos sugieren que el trauma en la infancia no es una causa primaria del desarrollo del TLP, aunque sí se ha visto relación, de forma más significativa con el abuso emocional, considerándolo un factor de riesgo para el desarrollo de la sintomatología límite. Se ha evidenciado que hacen falta más estudios para confirmar la relación entre traumas vividos en la infancia y desarrollo de TLP.

Several authors have investigated the relationship between childhood trauma experiences and the subsequent development of psychopathology as the Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). This work aims to verify the relationship between the trauma suffered in childhood and the development of Borderline Personality Disorder (BDP) in adulthood. A bibliographical exhaustive search was done in Medline, aiming to offer an updated revision, bounded to the five years of published studies in English and Spanish on the relationship between the childhood trauma and the development of BPD, taking into account the tittle, authors, objectives in the abstract and the results of the selected articles. Finally 20 scientific publications were selected. These results suggest that childhood trauma is not a primary cause of BPD development, although it has been observed a relationship, most significantly with emotional abuse, being a risk factor for the development of the borderline symptoms. It has been evidenced that more studies are needed to confirm the relationship between childhood trauma and development of BPD.
