El papel de los hombres en enfermería. Estereotipación de la profesión

Abstract

La historia de los cuidados ha naturalizado la actividad del cuidar por la mujer, quedando subordinada al papel del hombre, el cual se posiciona en el poder, debido al patriarcado. Esta división de los cuidados ha asociado a la mujer con enfermería, factor por el cual se ha creado este estereotipo. Así pues a la profesión de enfermería se la cataloga como femenina por el hecho de estar constituida mayoritariamente por mujeres, esto obliga a establecer una relación directa entre género y enfermería. Analizar la importancia de la influencia del género en la identidad enfermera, además del estereotipo patriarcal, ha permitido analizar la posición que han ocupado los hombres en la historia de los cuidados, hasta la inclusión de estos en la profesión enfermera. METODOLOGÍA : A partir de una búsqueda bibliográfica, el análisis de los datos del Instituto Nacional de estadística y de los resultados ofrecidos en las encuestas suministradas a los estudiantes de enfermería de la EUI Gimbernat, se extraen una serie de ideas clave que dan lugar a la configuración de este trabajo en tres grandes apartados: la evolución del rol de género en una profesión heterogénea, el papel de los primeros enfermeros y la influencia de los estereotipos de género en la identidad y desarrollo profesional. CONCLUSION : Se puede concluir que con el paso del tiempo, se observa que el número de hombres en la profesión aumenta, debido a su vocación natural y las buenas proyecciones laborales que ésta les ofrece, ya que pese a ser una profesión denominada como femenina, los enfermeros varones tienen unas posiciones profesionales más favorables respecto a las mujeres. The history of care has naturalized the activity of caring for women, being subordinated to the role of man, who is positioned in power, due to patriarchy. This division of care has associated women with nursing, a factor by which this stereotype has been created. Thus, the nursing profession is classified as female by the fact of being constituted mainly by women, this forces to establish a direct relationship between gender and nursing. Analyzing the importance of the influence of gender on the nurse identity, in addition to the patriarchal stereotype, has allowed analyzing the position that the men have occupied in the history of the care, until the inclusion of these in the nurse profession.
