Actitudes en estudiantes de enfermería hacia el cuidado del paciente en situación final de vida

Abstract

OBJETIVO: El objetivo de este trabajo fue estudiar la actitud de los estudiantes de enfermería para el cuidado de las personas en fin de vida y su relación con el curso académico, el sexo y la Inteligencia Emocional, el Bienestar subjetivo, la Autoestima y la Ansiedad ante la muerte. MÉTODO: Se realizó un estudio piloto mediante un diseño observacional transversal, en el que participaron 85 estudiantes de primero y cuarto curso de Grado de Enfermería, que respondieron un cuestionario anónimo y autoadministrado, que contenía la forma española de la Escala de Actitud para el Cuidado de Personas al Final de la Vida (FATCOD), El Cuestionario de Felicidad de Oxford, versión reducida (OHQ-SF), el Inventario Revisado de Ansiedad ante la Muerte (DAI-R), la Escala de Inteligencia Emocional (TMMS-24) y la Escala de Autoestima de Rosemberg (RSES). RESULTADOS: Los resultados obtenidos indican que los estudiantes de cuarto curso obtienen puntuaciones en la FATCOD significativamente superiores a los de primero. Asimismo, la FATCOD correlaciona de forma positiva y significativa con el Bienestar subjetivo, y Claridad y Reparación emocional, y de forma negativa y significativa con la Ansiedad ante la Muerte. CONCLUSIONES: Se pone en evidencia que la formación de los estudiantes influye favorablemente sobre su actitud para el cuidado de personas en final de vida y que esta actitud está condicionada por la Ansiedad que experimentan ante la muerte, por la Claridad y Reparación emocional y por la sensibilidad personal para percibir las emociones propias y ajenas. Estos resultados pueden orientar sobre las necesidades formativas de los estudiantes de enfermería para reforzar sus estrategias de afrontamiento en situaciones de dolor, deterioro y muerte de las personas a las que cuidan en el desarrollo de su trabajo.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this work is to study the attitude of the nursing students respecting to the care of the people in end-of-life situation, related with the academic grade, in consideration with the sex and the Emotional Intelligence, the Subjective Well-being, the Self-esteem and the Anxiety before death. METHOD: A pilot study was conducted through a transversal observational design, in which 85 students from first and fourth grade of nursing attended, who responded to an anonymous questionnaire and self-administered, containing the Spanish form of the scale of attitude for the care of people at the end of Life (FATCOD), the Happiness Questionnaire of Oxford, reduced version (OHQ-SF), the Revised Inventory of Anxiety before death (DAI-R), the scale of Intelligence Emotional (TMMS-24) and the Self-esteem scale of Rosemberg (RSES). RESULTS: The results obtained indicate that the fourth grade students purchase scores in the FATCOD significantly higher than those of first. In addition, FATCOD correlates positively and meaningfully with subjective well-being, and the Clarity and Emotional reparation, and in a negatively and meaningful way with death anxiety. CONCLUSIONS: It is evident that the formation of the students influences favorably on their attitude for the care of people in end-of-life situation and that this attitude is conditioned by the Anxiety that they experience before death, for the Clarity and Emotional reparation and personal sensitivity to perceive their own and others’ emotions. These results can guide the training needs of nursing students to reinforce their confrontation strategies.
