Ejercicio físico y el Trastorno del Espectro Autista: una revisión sistemática

Abstract

Introducción: El aumento de la prevalencia del Trastorno del Espectro del Autismo y el cambio que se ha producido respecto a su entendimiento o concepción, ha hecho que aumenten y avancen los estudios sobre su investigación y métodos de tratamiento. En los cuales, la fisioterapia ha abarcado numerosos déficits que suelen presentar estos pacientes desde su infancia, y ha hecho posible su precoz tratamiento, decisivo para su futuro. Objetivo: La finalidad de esta revisión es demostrar la efectividad del ejercicio físico en niños y adolescentes con TEA, destacando en qué campos es más notoria la terapia y sus efectos según la información buscada en la literatura actual sobre el tema. Material y métodos: Una búsqueda bibliográfica de ensayos clínicos fue realizada entre febrero y marzo de 2018, en las bases de datos Medline, PEDro y ERIC. Tras evaluar los artículos mostrados en las búsquedas y definir los criterios de inclusión y exclusión, se incluyeron un total de nueve estudios. Resultados: Todos los artículos incluidos en la revisión, menos uno que mide el impacto del Karate en el déficit de comunicación [29], muestran resultados estadísticamente significativos en la mayoría de las áreas evaluadas para niños y adolescentes con TEA. Discusión/Conclusión: No pueden generalizarse los resultados ya que cada artículo tiene una forma distinta de valorar y tratar a los pacientes respecto al tiempo, muestra e intervención. Es de destacar que los mejores resultados se han dado sobre todo en el tratamiento obsesivo compulsivo, integración social y capacidades motoras. Aun así, se puede decir que el deporte o ejercicio físico es una terapia recomendable para niños con Trastorno del Espectro del Autismo.

Introduction: The increasing prevalence of the Autism Spectrum Disorder and the change that has been done to the conception of it, has created an augmentation and progression on the studies that investigates the disorder and its intervention methods. We can find that physiotherapy has covered the intervention to several deficits that patients with ASD usually present since their childhood; this also has made the early intervention possible, being decisive for their future. Objective: The purpose of this systematic review is to prove the effectivity of physical exercise on children and teens with ASD, standing out in which fields is more effective the intervention and their effects according to the information searched on the actual literature about the topic. Material and Methods: A search on literature of clinical trials was made between February and March 2018, on Medline, PEDro and ERIC data bases. After reviewing the articles show on the searches and define the inclusion and exclusion criterias, nine studies were included to the systematic review. Results: Every included article in the review, besides one article that assessed effects of Karate on communication deficit [29], has shown statistically significant results on the most areas assessed to children and teenagers with ASD. Discussion/Conclusion: The results can’t be generalized because of the distinction on the assessment and intervention on patients, in order to period, sampling and therapy of each of the studies included. It is to stand out that the best results have been on obsessive compulsive intervention, social functions and motor capacities specially. Even so, it can be said that physical exercise is a recommended therapy for children and teenagers with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
