La Mutilación Genital Femenina

Abstract

INTRODUCCIÓN: La mutilación genital femenina (MGF), trata de una práctica tradicional que consiste en la extirpación total o parcial de los genitales externos femeninos, o su alteración por razones que no son de índole médico. Es considerada como un grave ataque de la integridad física y moral del ser humano, perjudicial para la salud y una violación de los derechos de las mujeres y niñas. OBJETIVOS: Sensibilizar y dar a entender a los profesionales sanitarios del problema que la mutilación genital femenina consiste. MATERIAS Y MÉTODOS: Proyecto de búsqueda dirigido a los profesionales sanitarios; investigar y revisar muchos documentos encontrados en diferentes bases de datos. RESULTADOS: El análisis de la bibliografía demuestra que sobre la mutilación genital femenina se ha investigado y avanzado más de lo que me esperaba. Aun así, es necesario que los profesionales de la salud sean formados para poder desarrollarse en está situación, ya que un punto fuerte es la prevención precoz para aplicar cuidados de calidad. CONCLUSIONES: La MGF únicamente no afecta a determinadas culturas, sino que perjudica al conjunto de la sociedad. Por eso mismo, los profesionales de la salud con una adecuada formación sobre los cuidados culturales pueden llevar a cabo un papel fundamental en la erradicación de esta práctica cultural. INTRODUCTION: Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is a traditional practice that consists of the total or partial removal of the external female genitalia, or its alteration for reasons that are not of a medical nature. It is considered a serious attack on the physical and moral integrity of the human being, harmful to health and a violation of the rights of women and girls. OBJECTIVE: Raise awareness and make health professionals understand about the problem that female genital mutilation consists of. MATERIAL AND METHOD: Search project aimed at healthcare professionals; research and review many documents found in different databases. RESULTS: Review of the literature shows that female genital mutilation has been researched and advanced more than I expected. Even so, it is necessary that health professionals be trained to be able to develop in this situation, since a strong point is early prevention to apply quality care. CONCLUSIONS: FGM does not only affect certain cultures, but harms society as a whole. For this reason, health professionals with adequate training in cultural care can play a fundamental role in the eradication of this cultural practice.
