Eficacia de la terapia oral motora (PIOMI) como método para promover la alimentación oral en bebés prematuros: protocolo de estudio

Abstract

Introducción: La prematuridad es el nacimiento que tiene lugar antes de que el bebé cumpla 37 semanas totales de gestación o que el periodo menstrual de la mujer gestante sea de menos de 259 días. Uno de los principales retos que afronta este colectivo es la alimentación. Objetivo: Comprobar que la terapia oral motora (PIOMI) resulta efectiva para favorecer la alimentación oral en bebés prematuros y contrastarla con los cuidados habituales de la Unidad Neonatal de Cuidados Intensivos (UCIN). Material y métodos: Cuatro bebés prematuros serán divididos en dos grupos. El grupo control recibirá los cuidados típicos de la UCIN, y el grupo experimental tendrá la terapia oral motora. Los dos grupos recibirán sesiones hasta la consecución de la alimentación por vía oral. Se valorará a los bebés tras las intervenciones utilizando escalas científicas y de elaboración propia. Plan de análisis de los resultados: Se empleará la prueba para variables con distribución normal t de Student, y para variables de distribución no normal U de Mann-Whitney. Utilizaremos la prueba t de t de Student para datos apareados si la distribución es normal, y en caso contrario, se recurrirá a la prueba de los rangos de Wilcoxon para comparar el comportamiento las variables a lo largo del tiempo. Discusión/conclusión: Se prevé que la intervención con PIOMI reduzca el tiempo hasta el logro de la alimentación oral, costes hospitalarios, estancias hospitalarias.

Introduction: Prematurity is the birth that takes place before the baby reaches 37 total weeks of gestation or the pregnant woman's menstrual period is less than 259 days. One of the main challenges faced by this group is food. Objective: To verify that oral motor therapy (PIOMI) is effective in promoting oral feeding in premature babies and to contrast it with the usual care of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Material and methods: Four premature babies will be divided into two groups. The control group will receive typical NICU care, and the experimental group will have oral motor therapy. Both groups will receive sessions until oral feeding is achieved. Babies will be assessed after the interventions using scientific and self-developed scales. Results analysis plan: The Student's t test will be used for variables with a normal distribution, and for variables with a non-normal distribution, the Mann-Whitney U. We will use the Student t test for paired data if the distribution is normal, and otherwise, the Wilcoxon rank test will be used to compare the behavior of the variables over time. Discussion/conclusion: Intervention with PIOMI is expected to reduce time to achievement of oral feeding, hospital costs, and hospital stays.
